Our name is Marchex. We are a B2B company. And we are on Pinterest.
Allow me to explain. Pinterest – an image-heavy social network where users collect and organize things they love – might not seem like the most natural fit for a company without a photogenic, consumer-facing product. But we’re doing it anyway.
Why? For us, the question is ‘Why not?’ Building the Marchex Pinterest page pushes us to be creative in a new and important way. And it’s a channel that is becoming increasingly more relevant for businesses.
A study just released this July from Semiocast, a Paris-based social media firm, found that Pinterest hit 70 million users worldwide, with no signs of slowing down. Its reach into businesses is also expanding. Last November, Pinterest created business accounts, which allow companies to take advantage of key analytics and add “Pin It” buttons to their websites.
A social network like this can drive traffic to our website, our other social channels, and potentially reach a completely new audience. Bottom line, Pinterest is continuing to explode and not utilizing it would be missing an opportunity to showcase our brand, company culture, and values.
So what, exactly does a B2B business like us look like on Pinterest? Check out our new page to see our collections of images, and preview some of our boards here:

This board features quotes from Marchex employees across all of our unique departments. Not only is this board great recruiting material, but it’s a fun way to get employees involved in our social marketing.
Lastly, it’s fun to show pride in our cities, and these boards do just that. They feature some original pictures from the Marchex Instagram account (@marchexinc) and more.
Our Pinterest collection gives viewers a glimpse into different sides of Marchex. Other boards on our page show company events, our core values, mobile advertising, fun techy gadgets and more. They all relate directly or indirectly to what we do and who we are.
We don’t know exactly what Pinterest will do for Marchex yet. But it’s absolutely an experiment worth trying, and we’re excited to see how it turns out.
Question: Do you have a business on Pinterest? If so, we’d love to hear about your experience! Leave us a note in the comments.
